PRESS RELEASE

MAY 15, 2009 Press Release

Clean Sweep for Clay Dow

The Sprint Cars of New England (SCoNE) made the first stop of their 2009 touring season at the Canaan Dirt Speedway www.canaandirtspeedway.com at the fairgrounds in Canaan, NH.  Of note is the return of Tunk Berry, back with us after a one year absence, and the presence of two sprint car rookies; Robby Bodwell and Randy Howe Welcome!!

There were 10 cars present but mechanical gremlins made their appearance early. Mark Cole attempted to push off his 6X car in the pits to get heat in his engine and broke the driveshaft before he had a chance to get on the track.  Scratch Mark for the night.

In the first heat the finish order was Si Allen (#17) for 1st; Randy Howe (#82) was 2nd in his first ever start in a sprint car; Lacey Hanson (#33) nipped Bruce Kimball (#10) at the finish for 3rd and Bruce was 4th.

In the second heat the finish order was Clay Dow (#58) for 1st; Tunk Berry (#11) was second; Bob Giuliani (#38) was 3rd; Mike Kondrat (#5) was 4th and Robby Bodwell (#9) was 5th in his first ever start in a sprint car.  Although Bob Giuliani finished the heat his steering was toast and he was unable to start the feature.

In the feature Clay, started on the outside pole and he launched from there.  He was easily the fastest car on the track for the night and seems to be picking up right where he left off last year where he won the last points race.  The remainder of the finishing order is as follows: Tunk Berry finished second; Randy Howe, 3rd; Si Allen 4th; Mike Kondrat 5th;  Robby Bodwell 6th; Bruce Kimball 7th; and Lacey Hanson 8th with a broken header causing her to leave the track early.

Also please note that we have changed the points system from last year.
In the past heats were awarded points of 3, 2 and 1 for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd .
There were no additional heat points awarded regardless of how many cars
were in your heat.  Feature points were 20, 19, 18 etc. for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.

This year points will be awarded as follows:

Heats:    1st = 10;   2nd =  7;   3rd = 5;   4th =  4;   5th =  3;   etc.
Features:  1st = 40;  2nd = 35;   3rd = 32;   4th = 30;   5th = 28;   etc.
