Anthony Cain Nips Si Allen On The Last Lap

The Winged Warriors of SCoNE (Sprint Cars of New England) flew into Bear Ridge Speedway www.bearridgespeedway.com on Saturday evening for their Third race of the 2009 season.  There were 13 of these alcohol gulping, fire breathing, 360 cubic inch cars on hand.

Anthony Cain, Matt Shuart, Shawn Lawler and James Hanson
made their first SCoNE start of the season.  Welcome back!

The track was tacky and had plenty of grip for the start of the heats making for plenty of action.

Finishing order for the 1st heat is as follows:
1st was the 6X of Mark Cole; 2nd the 58 of Clay Dow; 3rd the 15C of Anthony Cain; 4th the 18L of Shawn Lawler; 5th the 33 of Lacey Hanson; 6th the 38 of Bob Giuliani.

Finishing order for the 2nd heat is:
1st was the 17 of Si Allen; 2nd the 11 of Tunk Berry;  3rd the 10 of Bruce Kimball; 4th the 60H of James Hanson;  5th the 9 of Robby Bodwell;   6th the 18F of Matt Shuart; 7th the 5 of Mike Kondrat.

Again this week SCoNE had 13 cars to start the feature.  The track provided plenty of grip as it was really tacky at the start due in part to the light sprinkle that occurred throughout the evening.

These winged warriors are really thrilling to watch.  With the grippy track, both Clay Dow and Shawn Lawler were doing long, high wheel stands coming out of turn four.  Others may have been also, but when the 18L (my son) is on the track I have trouble watching the other cars.  Spectators to both sides of me were commenting on these wheel stands.  With two laps to go, Shawn spun bringing out a caution flag and allowing the field to bunch up again.  On the restart Si was running 1st  with Clay 2nd and Anthony 3rd.  Clay made a dive to the inside of Si but couldn’t quite make the pass and Anthony slipped by Clay.  One lap to go and Anthony got by Si in turn two to take the lead and the checker.

Finishing order for the feature is as follows:
1st Anthony Cain (his first Vermont win); 2nd Si Allen; 3rd Clay Dow; 4th James Hanson; 5th Bruce Kimball; 6th Robby Bodwell and 7th Matt Shuart.  8th was Shawn Lawler; 9th Mark Cole; 10th Lacey Hanson; 11th Bob Giuliani; 12th Tunk Berry and 13th Mike Kondrat, all with mechanical problems.

The SCoNE Winged Warriors will make their next appearance on
Saturday, June 20th at Rattlesnake Motordrome www.rattlesnakemotordrome.50webs.com on Route 25,
on the Rumney/Wentworth, NH town line.
Racing starts at 6:00 pm.
