SCoNE Feature Rained Out Again
The Winged Warriors of SCoNE (Sprint Cars of New England) arrived at Canaan Dirt Speedway www.canaandirtspeedway.com Saturday evening for their fourth race of the 2009 season at the Canaan Fairgrounds. There were 11 of these alcohol gulping, fire breathing, 360 cubic inch cars on hand. Racing started at approximately 7:00 pm.
The track surface was average and hot laps went off without incident.
Finishing order for the 1st heat:
1st was the 60H of James Hanson, 2nd the 18L of Shawn Lawler, 3rd the 11 of Tunk Berry, 4th the 38 of Bob Giuliani and 5th the 10 of Bruce Kimball.
Finishing order for the 2nd heat:
1st was the 6X of Mark Cole, 2nd the 59 of Clay Dow, 3rd the 88 of Si Allen, 4th the 33 of Lacey Hanson, 5th the 5 of Mike Kondrat and 6th the 82 of Randy Howe.
Shortly after the SCoNE heats, the rain came. It was unfortunate that the track was unable to get in all the heats. It started with a light sprinkle and just kept on. Cars that tried to race were just sliding on the track and unable to stay on the racing surface. As the night wore on the rain just kept getting heavier. The evening’s races were called and Canaan provided us with a makeup date of August 21st.
There has been talk about running a double feature for SCoNE that night; an early one of 20 laps and a later one of 25 laps. That can work out well but if you wreck in the 1st, you may be done for the night. That would be costly to anyone in the points race.
For those of you who may not be aware, SCoNE has been removed from the Rattlesnake Motordrome schedule. The drivers and crews had concerns regarding track preparation, flagging and payout and sent a letter to the Rattlesnake management relating these concerns. We were then removed from their schedule in lieu of an answer. SCoNE wishes Rattlesnake well and hopes that at some point in the future we may renew our relationship.
This coming weekend the Winged Warriors will be flying into Bear Ridge Speedway, www.bearridgespeedway.com in Bradford, VT. This is a makeup race for the rain out of July 11th and I believe will consist of a feature race ONLY for the SCoNE sprints. There will be no heats. Racing starts at approximately 6:00 pm.
Last time at The Ridge there were long, high, wheel stands galore and lots of side by side and three wide racing. That was thrilling, open wheel racing at its best.
C’mon out and watch the alcohol drinking, fire breathing, winged monsters of SCoNE. You’ll be glad you did.
