AUGUST 28, 2009 Press Release

Randy Howe With His First SCoNE Win
Tunk Berry With The Canaan Sprint Championship

The Winged Warriors of SCoNE (Sprint Cars of New England)
flew into Canaan Dirt Speedway www.canaandirtspeedway.com Friday evening for their last race of the season at the Canaan Fairgrounds.  There were 15 of these alcohol gulping, fire breathing, 360 cubic inch cars on hand.  Racing started promptly at approximately 7:00 pm as advertised.

Lonnie Lacaillade from VT was driving the 15C of Anthony Cain for the night.  This was his first SCoNE start.  Welcome Lonnie.

The track surface was an average dirt track for the start of the heats.

Finishing order for the 1st heat:
1st was the 6X of Mark Cole, 2nd the 82 of Randy Howe, 3rd the 5 of Mike Kondrat, 4th the 18F of Matt Shuart, 5th the 15C of Lonnie Lacaillade, 6th the 10 of Bruce Kimball and 7th the 88 of Si Allen.   The 0t of Chris Sweeny was unable to start.

Finishing order for the 2nd heat:
1st was the 59 of Clay Dow, 2nd the 33 of Lacey Hanson, 3rd the 18L of Shawn Lawler, 4th the 11 of Tunk Berry, 5th the 72 of Jeff Ries, 6th the 9 of Robby Bodwell and 7th the 38 of Bob Giuliani.

SCoNE had 15 cars to start the feature.  The track surface was somewhat tacky at the start and quickly slicked of during the race.

Chris Sweeny and Jeff Ries started on the pole and did their best to hold their spot.  Soon Randy Howe took over the lead.  On lap four, Shawn Lawler spun in turn three and fortunately the following cars were able to avoid him.  The sprints then ran off fifteen laps of side by side, close racing when there was a multiple car accident, again in turn three.  Several cars went out on the hook.  On the restart Randy took off again and was able to hold the lead for his first SCoNE win.  Clay Dow charged hard from his last place starting position and was able to get to second with Tunk Berry finishing third.

Finishing order for the feature:
1st was Randy Howe, 2nd Clay Dow, 3rd Tunk Berry, 4th Shawn Lawler, 5th Bruce Kimball, 6th Bob Giuliani, 7th Si Allen and 8th Robby Bodwell.  Jeff Ries was 9th, Mike Kondrat 10th, Mark Cole 11th, Lonnie Lacaillade 12th, Matt Shuart 13th, Chris Sweeny 14th and Lacey Hanson 15th, all with mechanical problems.

After the Canaan sprint points were added up it was found that Tunk Berry was the Canaan Sprint Champion with 252 points for the 2009 year.  Congratulations, Tunk.  Randy Howe was second with 234 and Mike Kondrat third with 228.

The SCoNE Winged Warriors will make their next appearance on Saturday, August 29th at Bear Ridge Speedway www.bearridgespeedway.com in Bradford, VT.  Racing starts at approximately 6:00 pm.

The winged sprints of SCoNE
are the fastest dirt race cars in New England.

C’mon out and watch’em.  You’ll be glad you did.
