AUGUST 7, 2009 Press Release

Mark Cole, From Green To Checker

The Winged Warriors of SCoNE (Sprint Cars of New England) flew into Canaan Dirt Speedway www.canaandirtspeedway.com Friday evening for another race at the Canaan Fairgrounds.  There were 14 of these alcohol gulping, fire breathing, 360 cubic inch cars on hand.  Racing started promptly at approximately 7:00 pm as advertised.

Matt Tanner of the Capital Region Sprint Association (CRSA) made the journey from New York to race with SCoNE.  Also Chris Sweeny and Jeff Ries pulled in for their second SCoNE start of the season.  Welcome Matt, Chris and Jeff.

The track surface was an average dirt track for the start of the heats.

Finishing order for the 1st heat:
1st was the 90 of Matt Tanner, 2nd the 82 of Randy Howe, 3rd the 18L of Shawn Lawler, 4th the 11 of Tunk Berry, 5th the 60H of James Hanson and 6th the 59 of Clay Dow.  The 0t of Chris Sweeny was 7th with mechanical problems.

Finishing order for the 2nd heat:
1st was the 33 of Lacey Hanson, 2nd the 10 of Bruce Kimball, 3rd the 5 of Mike Kondrat, 4th the 88 of Si Allen, 5th the 72 of Jeff Ries and 6th the 38 of Bob Giuliani.  The 6X of Mark Cole was 7th with mechanical problems.

SCoNE had 14 cars to start the feature.  The track surface was somewhat tacky overall with the new clay the speedway had in place.

Mark Cole started on the outside pole alongside Randy Howe and had the lead by the end of the first lap.  Meanwhile Clay Dow started in 10th place and was moving up.  The only challenge Mark had was late in the race when Clay caught him. Clay had to settle for second when he couldn’t make the pass.

Finishing order for the feature:
1st was Mark Cole, 2nd Clay Dow, 3rd Lacey Hanson, 4th Tunk Berry, 5th Matt Tanner, 6th Mike Kondrat, 7th Bruce Kimball, 8th Si Allen and 9th Bruce Kimball.  Shawn Lawler was 10th, Randy Howe 11th, Jeff Ries 12th, Chris Sweeny 13th and James Hanson 14th, all with mechanical problems.

The SCoNE Winged Warriors will make their next appearance on
Saturday, August 8th at Bear Ridge Speedway
www.bearridgespeedway.com in Bradford, VT.
Racing starts at approximately 6:00 pm.
