AUGUST 8, 2009 Press Release

Clay Dow For The Third Time

The Winged Warriors of SCoNE (Sprint Cars of New England) arrived at Bear Ridge Speedway www.bearridgespeedway.com Saturday evening for another race of the 2009 season at the The Ridge.  There were 10 of these alcohol gulping, fire breathing, 360 cubic inch cars on hand.  Racing started at approximately 6:00 pm.

Matt Shuart made the long, four plus hour trip from his home in New York to race with us again.  This makes his third SCoNE appearance. Welcome, Matt.

The track surface was very rough.  I believe we were sent to the track for hot laps before they were prepared for us as the grader was still on the track.  But, sprints are hard to start and stop so it was easier to pull the grader off than it was to restart the sprints.  Hot laps went off without incident.

Finishing order for the 1st heat:
1st was the 33 of Lacey Hanson, 2nd the 18F of Matt Shuart, 3rd the 10 of Bruce Kimball, 4th the 11 of Tunk Berry and 5th the 5 of Mike Kondrat.

Finishing order for the 2nd heat:
1st was the 18L of Shawn Lawler, 2nd the 88 of Si Allen, 3rd the 59 of Clay Dow, 4th the 38 of Bob Giuliani and 5th the 6X of Mark Cole.

For the feature, Matt started on the inside pole with Bob on the outside.  Matt led the first lap but Bob had the lead by the second lap and held it through lap 17 when Matt got it back.  Matt led for 2 laps when another player joined the chase.  Clay, from his 6th place starting position, got by Bob for second and then passed Matt for 1st  on lap 20.

Finishing order for the feature:

1st was Clay Dow, 2nd Matt Shuart, 3rd Bob Giuliani, 4th Shawn Lawler, 5th Tunk Berry, 6th Si Allen, 7th Mike Kondrat, 8th Mark Cole, 9th Lacey Hanson and 10th Bruce Kimball.

The feature was run in 25 laps, green to checker with no cautions.  There was plenty of passing and side by side racing and wheel stands galore.  There was Bob Giuliani running so far on the outside I sometimes wondered if he was still on the track in turns 3 and 4.  Matt and Bob ran 17 laps of nearly side by side racing for the lead.  A really great race.

This coming weekend the Winged Warriors have a free weekend (August 14th and 15th).

The following weekend August 21st will see the SCoNE winged warriors at
Canaan Fair Speedway www.canaandirtspeedway.com at the fairgrounds
on Orange Road in Canaan, NH.  Racing starts at approximately 7:00 pm.

C’mon out and watch
